Domain-Driven Design

Eric Evans

1st ed.

Most systems don't fail technically — they fail because the code stopped matching how the business actually works. This is how you fix that, on purpose.

About the book

Eric Evans' central claim is that the model is the code and the code is the model: software complexity becomes manageable when domain experts and developers share one language, and that language is expressed directly in bounded contexts, aggregates, and entities. The greatest risk in software isn't a technical failure, it's building the wrong shared understanding of the business. The book gives both strategic tools (bounded contexts, context mapping, anti-corruption layers) and tactical ones (entities vs. value objects, aggregate roots, domain events) for keeping code and business language aligned as both evolve.

Best used for

  • —Drawing bounded context boundaries when breaking apart a monolith
  • —Distinguishing entities, value objects, and aggregate roots in a domain model
  • —Building a ubiquitous language shared across conversation, code, and tests

“This book is impossible to rate. The ideas in this book are incredibly useful, and I am grateful to the author for sharing them with the software development community.”
